INTERVIEW WITH ANTHONY WALKER OF UNCHECKED AGGRESSION

Q:  WHEN DID UNCHECKED AGGRESSION GET STARTED?

A:  We started about 3 long years ago.  

Q:  WHAT INSTRUMENT DO YOU PLAY?

A:  I play the drums...at least I try anyway!! LOL  

Q:  WHERE IS THE BAND LOCATED?

A:  Well, we are all from different areas but we practice in Grand Prairie.  Used to be a place called Corpse Gristle Music Compound...now its Zativah Rehearsals.   

Q:  I HATE LABELS BUT WHAT STYLE OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?

A:  I’d like to say its old school thrash metal.  We play the stuff people don’t have the balls to play anymore!!!  

Q:  WHERE DO YOUR IDEAS AND THOUGHTS COME FROM IN ORDER FOR YOU TO WRITE WHAT YOU DO?

A:  We all just come up with stuff all the time...different things come from different moods that we happen to be in at the time.  You never know when something killer will come to mind...you could be chillin on the toilet and come up with the best thing you ever have.  LOL  

Q:  WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE BEST WAY TO REACH THE FANS?

A:  To us it’s the full 9-yards.  When people come to a show, no matter how drunk they are, we sit and talk with them.  We love talkin to our fans.  We send them emails and letters as often as we can.  The fans are a huge part of this band...if someone comes to a show and wants to hear a particular song; we do our best to make sure we play it.  

Q:  HOW CAN THE PEOPLE GET YOUR MUSIC?

A:  Shows are obviously the best way.  But, other ways to get the album is online at: www.uncheckedaggression.net or www.cdbaby.com/cd/unchecked   We also have our cd in just about every CD Warehouse in the DFW area!!

Q:  WHAT’S THE HARDEST PART OF BEING A MUSICIAN?

A:  Being broke!!!  

Q:  WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO PERFORM LIVE?

A:  I’d have to say "Smell of Blood” That song seems to get everyone pumped.  We strive on the pit.  

Q:  I READ SOME REVIEWS ON CD BABY AND THEY REFER TO YOUR MUSIC AS ‘OLD SCHOOL’ THRASH LIKE METALLICA.  WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

A:  Definitely.  There are many bands we get influences from but I’d say Metallica is the biggest one...if it weren’t for Metallica, we probably wouldn’t be in a band.  As far as being "Old School Thrash"...we are very proud to call ourselves that.  

Q:  WHAT HAS THE CLUB SCENE BEEN LIKE FOR UNCHECKED AGGRESSION IN DALLAS?

A:  Pretty damn cool.  We love playing in Deep Ellum.  Tree's, Curtain Club...great places.  We have lots of fun playing everywhere.  The Ft Worth fans rule too!!!!  

Q:  I READ THAT YA’LL HAVE PLAYED IN TENNESSEE AND OKLAHOMA ALSO.  HOW WAS IT THERE?

A:  Oklahoma was a trip man.  Rabid fans, hardcore people.  Tennessee was another story though, the people were cool but there were hardly any people there.  It’s very hard to find the metal heads there.   

Q:  EXPLAIN WHAT THE EXPERIENCE OF AN UNCHECKED AGGRESSION SHOW IS LIKE.

A:  Pure energy.  We go up there and play our hardest every time.  It doesn’t matter if there are 10 people there or 100, or even 1000.  We play like there is no tomorrow.... after all, they paid to see you, you better be on it and make them happy.  We try to put on the most wild and crazy shows as we can...we love audience participation.  

Q:  WHO’S THE MAIN WRITER IN THE GROUP?

A:  We all are equal in this band.  We just get together and write and just who ever has ideas lets them flow.  After a song starts, the ideas just flow from everyone.  

Q:  WHAT OTHER BAND EXPERIENCE DO YOU GUYS HAVE?

A:  We’ve all been in other bands before this one but they were never anything special.  LOL. THIS is the real deal!!!  

Q:  TELL US ABOUT “THE MASSACRE BEGINS”. 

A:  We started recording it back in November of 2001.  Went in on Halloween night.  Mike T from The Tattoo Bar produced it...he’s killer behind the board, man.  If any metal band needs a killer cd done, go to Mike.  He gets the best sound out of you for sure.  Hopefully this cd will get us signed and on our way.  We're trying that’s for sure.  

Q:  HAVE YOU SEEN SUCCESSFUL SALES/REQUESTS FOR THIS ALBUM?

A:  Yeah, I mean we're not platinum or nothin but we’ve sold quiet a few.  We sell the most at shows.  Its gettin pretty good air play on the Internet and a few major stations around here.  The Eagle and KNON are great supporters of this cd.

Q:  WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM UNCHECKED AGGRESSION IN 2003?

A:  Hopefully some HUGE news.  We are trying to play as many shows as possible...we have about 10 shows set up right now goin into the new year.  We are trying to put together some out of city/state shows as well.  Keep an eye out.   

Q:  WHAT KIND OF FAN BASE DO YOU GUYS HAVE?

A:  It’s pretty solid.  VERY committed fans...all the people who support us the most, you know who you are!!!  Hardcore bastards!!!
