Mission Statement
Heavy Metal is a little more than just a distorted guitar, but having said that, it isn't Metal without a screaming guitar!  It's an attitude, belief, emotion expressed in their music and life.  No stereotypes.  That's what happens when corporate business takes over music, we have bands that are nothing more than duplicates of the real thing.  But what we do have when corporate business is promoting almost naked girls, boy bands, and rap crap, is HEAVY METAL music that is made for the bands and the fans!  Unfortunately that means less exposure by radio, media, and the like.  Soooo, what you have here is a chance to find out that a lot of the bands you used to like are still around and making great HEAVY METAL music.  Also there are even more Great Bands that you may not even know about.  So take a look, listen, and learn.  Welcome to St. Hood's HEAVY METAL HQ!

Well I must say the biggest bummer of 2004 has to be that I got sick as a dog and missed the Helloween show in Dallas!  Only been 15+ years since they were here and I get sick.  UPside is there is some great music coming out.  I just got the new Iced Earth "The Glorious Burden".  I already am an Iced Earth fan and a Ripper fan so it is a great album.  New UFO 'You Are Here' without Michael Schenker.  Good album.  New Shiva 'Desert Dream' which is different than a lot of other swedish metal coming out.  Of course their more of a hard rock band than metal I should say.  It's good but I prefer their first self title.  New Tesla 'Into The Now' is great classic Tesla music.  It too is good but I would say my favorite album of the moment is the new Pink Cream 69 'Thunderdome'.  Not a week song there except I don't care for the 'My Sharona' cover.  Which is done well just doesn't sound as good as their own songs!  So I would say get it first!!!

Well it looks like Ripper has done alright.  He is now the singer for Iced Earth!  You can check out some samples of their upcoming album at www.icedearth.com  By what I heard it sounds pretty good and I can't wait for the new cd.  A very good sight to check out for news is Blabbermouth for those who don't know.

Halford is back with Judas Priest.  If this makes you happy great.  If I seem to care less I'm sorry but Ripper did just find on both Demolition and Jugulator not to mention live since I saw them twice with Ripper.  Hopefully this will get them bigger venues but I think the problem is the lack of radio and PR and not who's singing in the band.  Demolition is my favorite Judas Priest album to date and Halford put out a few great albums under that moniker.  So instead of having two great bands we're down to one again.  I can only hope that Ripper's next band will be as good as Blaze's Silicon Messiah.

Some new webpages to check out!  www.theloudestrock.com and www.ontherocks.de  Also a new band you will want to here if you want more music like Skid Row used to make.  They're called Pyn Siren, their album is called "Slave To Your Master" and you can read about them and hear them on the websites above!

New music that's what it's all about if you're like me.  You don't need a new box set or compilation!  I was looking around different news sites looking for new albums and most of what I found was old groups still cashing in on their hey day.  I realize these groups aren't mainstream anymore but there are plenty of smaller labels that would gladly put their music out but unfortunately they might not make as much money per album.  It's a catch 22 in the music industry if you want radio airplay and mainstream distibution you must sell your soul (songs).  Anyway on with some good news.
New releases from Metallica (if anyone cares anymore), Queensryche, Type O Negative, Anthrax, and Brett Michaels to name a few.  Check my CD Views page for reviews of these albums and more.

Well, well, it's been a while but when money stops so does you economic means for the music you love.  Recent purchases include Boston "Corporate America" good to hear Boston again.  A little short changed on this album but hoping for more soon.  I downloaded "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Boston, sweet!  Bought Def Leppard "X" at the same time.  Another great Def Leppard album just wish they would throw some more rockers in there!  Also Jeff (of www.jeffsmusicmania.net) was selling his used cd's $2 ea.  Picked-up Warrant "Dog Eat Dog", "Dirty Rotten...", & "Cherry Pie" Steelheart "Steelheart", Great White "...Twice Shy" and Victor "Victor".  Not  too bad for $12.  Solid rock every album.  Some of the best.  I recommend if you want metal at a great price you got to call Jeff.  His number is on his site!  He's got some cool video's too! More Recent purchases would be Iced Earth "Alive In Athens" a copy for the Jeep!  Along with Aska "Nine Tongues", Crimson Glory "Astronomica", Savatage "Handful of Rain", and Great White "Hooked".  I listened to Great White first.  There's just not enough good Led Zep type Heavy Metal out there.  These guys are great!  Savatage second and this is one of my favorite Savatage albums,  second to "Gutter Ballet".  Saving the best for last I will be jamming out my Crimson Glory & Aska next!  Still looking for Aska "Aska" & "Immortal".  I have a burned copy of "Immortal" but must have the real deal!  I must confess that "Immortal" is my favorite Aska album even-though "Avenger" has 'Crown of Thorns' which is George's best song so far and my favorite all time Aska song "Leather".  - Up The Irons!
Looking for Westworld albums, Adriangale, and Slav Simanic albums.

Alright I got some things to say and no where to say it so...  It's the people's fault(in the US I mean).  They elected a President who lied, and cheated because he did it and got away with it.  CEO's and V.P.'s figured it was ok too.  Today we reap what we sow!
Went to a Aska show at J. Gilligian's in Arlington.  All I know if there was a fire there that night, I was toast.  No new tune to report afterall it was George and Keith's birthday bash so Dimebag showed up (stoned), to present George with a Zak 'bullseye' guitar.  Sweet ; )

Just wanted to tell you what I have been listening to...for those who like the same music as me might find some more music they like! Westworld "Cyberdreams" all I can say is this is a must buy. I will do a review soon. Also Fair Warning "Go". Really good stuff! I guess I've been listening to a little more melodic rock and less crunch rythmn stuff. I'm compareing Halford "Crucible" to Seven Witches "Passage To The Other Side". Very much the same vocally and guitar, so if you liked "Crucible" then you'll probable like "PTTOS" as well. If you listen to christian metal you should check out Slav Simanic "Let It Go". Dude can play!! I also recommend RIOT "Through The Storm"! Good music though not as heavy as some of their past work still has great songs. FYI - Mark Reale plays guitar in both RIOT and Westworld. I like his work. Along with waiting for the new ASKA release I'm waitng for the next Scorpions. I hear it's gonna be a rocker with Deiter Dierks producing. Scorpions have a greatest hits album out called "Bad For Good: The Very Best Of Scorpions" with two new tracks. Not to mention the tracks they have are some of my pics too. Great collection actually! New song "Cause I love you" is a great rocker (more "zoo" sounding than "rock you like a hurricane"). Also if you haven't heard Victor Alex Lifeson's solo project (1996) it's good! Some rock and some prog...

I hate to disappoint George Call of Aska but I read on melodicrock.com that Judas Priest are keeping Ripper!  Good choice!  I love Demolition!!  I'll copy and past from there to here...
"PRIEST DENY RUMORS OF HALFORD'S RETURN:
Judas Priest have acted quickly to hose down speculation that Ripper Owens has left the band. This comes after yesterday's story that drummer Scott Travis had been quoted by BW&BK as saying they wanted Rob back.
The official band statement reads:
"There appears to have been some confusion regarding a story that is circulating - there is no truth in the rumour that there has been a reunion with Rob Halford or that we are doing any shows with him in the summer.
Ripper Owens is Judas Priest's vocalist - nothing has changed!
Thanks!"
Mmm...BW&BK have since removed the story from their website and newswires. Something doesn't quite add up, but when something else develops, you'll be sure to hear about it. - melodicrock.com

Pete Townsend - If you haven't heard already he is being charged for having child pornography on his PC.  Doh!  Stupid!  Better not have anything that looks under age on you computer and especially if it says it's under 18.  If you go to porn sites you probably have cookies that say crap like that! No porn banners or ads on this page.  No ads of any kind!  I don't get paid to recommend anyone and ain't doing it to be popular!

Went to Ground's CD Release Party at The Underworld Friday Night!  Check out my review on the liveviews page!

My 2002 Album of the Year!

What can I say it's 2003!!   2002 can go to he......  It's a new year and we have new music!  But first let me say Hammerfall "Crimson Thunder" gets my vote for album of the year!!  It came out late in the year and got played more than the others!  Thanks guys!  Well back to the new year and new music, Shiva has a self titled album out and it rocks hard to a dance beat!  Yea I actually remember when "Disco Sucks!" was said.  I may have said it once or twice myself.  :-)  Yeah I said a dance beat with lots of rock'n'roll guitar!  I know it's controversial picking it but I love it!  IT ROCKS!  Thanks Shiva!!  Check out their samples!  "STAY OUT" should be first single then "SHAME ON YOU" then "DOW JONES INDEX"!  "ONE MORE DAY" should be a single too, it's a ballad but not over done.  Done just right.  A lot of great songs here!  "LEAD YOU ON" rocks! I not only like the guitar riffs he uses but the solos are great too!  Did I mention I love the vocals?! Did I mention they're female vocals?  Wow!  I love it even with dance beat and female vocals!  It's great that her voice doesn't sound the same on every song.  "RIGHT ON TIME' has a Cher sound to it.  What can I say the album rocks all the way to the end!  Thanks Shiva!

As far as I'm concerned Shiva "Shiva" is the album to beat!  Hey that's not saying I want a bunch of dancing sound rock albums.  People should write what they want to here.  Unfortunately a lot of bands today are going crunch rhythms instead of melody and music.  I like melody and music with lots of crunch and sometimes with big background vocals!  Hammerfall did their thing and did it well and Shiva did their thing well.  I guess you can say the biggest anticipation for 2003 is the next ASKA (www.askaband.com) album.  I heard them debut a song "Freedom, Freedom".  I think a lot of people liked it!  I kept waiting for some Big Harmony Vocal Sing Along Chorus!  A song titled that should have a big bar sing along type part where everyone lifts their beers and fist and sings!  And don't forget LIBERTY!  True I've only heard it once and wasn't paying attention.
